“Increased diversity enhances our operational capability and flexibility and better reflects the diverse nature of our country,” Cmdr. Brian Casson, force diversity officer, said in the article. “It’s not just about race and ethnicity. It’s about finding the candidates with the right personal traits, such as work ethic, languages and both mental and physical strength.”

The article stated that diversity among its members is “critical to inspiring new ideas and developing capabilities.”

The NSW currently has a diversity plan in place with measurable objectives and tangible goals such as providing mentoring and formulating creative marketing programs to attract candidates from various backgrounds.

Some of the targets set for 2009 include extending diversity training to all members, as well as conducting performance assessments in an effort to track various diversity initiatives.
